Mission and Philosophy
We provide microfinance coupled with knowledge and information services that raise human capacity and organizational capability and create open access to markets resulting in more productive loans.
Madura is fundamentally a social enterprise that has taken on the challenge of not just creating a scalable, profit-making enterprise but of creating a scalable, profit-making enterprise that creates unique social value in every aspect of its core operations. We envision a more informed rural community that is more tightly integrated with the mainstream economy in multiple ways.
Finance may be the initial catalyst for change. However we believe that bringing individuals together into a dynamic network based on critical knowledge and market information facilitates productive and innovative interactions and becomes the driver of sustainable economic prosperity in the rural population. With this in mind we have created cost efficient and profitable systems for the flow of finance and information that together can deliver scalable social value.
As a microfinance lender, we have the highest cost efficiency worldwide, which allows us to deliver a range of financial products profitably at the lowest rates on the market. In 2007, Forbes recognized our predecessor organization, Microcredit Foundation of India, as the most cost efficient microfinance institution worldwide. Today Madura carries on that distinction. A strong and flexible communication platform for the delivery of training and information through voice, print and audiovisual media to and between our members cultivates both their personal and business capabilities and expands their opportunities. It also results in unique channels through which we can connect our corporate partners with our networks, giving them the ability to present their products and services to our members. Our platform includes a local classifieds newspaper that reaches 400,000 households, over 150 audiovisual training enabled centers, a monthly video based news program and a monthly meeting of our self help groups where detailed print information is communicated. For more information see our sections on micromarkets and microeducation.
